What is Live Your Own Life?

Live Your Own Life is a collection of articles, book reviews, worksheets, and other resources about the how and why of being yourself.

Live Your Own Life is created by me, Amy Rhoda Brown.

I created this website to think out loud and to share what I’m learning. I write for myself, but I hope you’ll discover new ideas, or new perspectives on old ideas.

About Me

One day in my early 20s I was at work, but I was definitely not doing work. I was reading the Internet, before social media, when the Internet was people’s websites, e-zines, and conversation boards. I was learning about people, psychology, motivation, and life.

I don’t remember which website I was reading when I had an epiphany that changed my life: I realized that I could choose.

Not only could I make choices about the obvious things, like my job and my apartment and the people I dated, I could also choose how I responded to the things that happened to me. I wasn’t at the mercy of life. This was revolutionary.

Ever since then, I have been deliberate about how I live. But even so, I ended up making decisions for reasons that I didn’t fully understand until years or decades later. I continue on my journey of self-knowledge and self-determination, and I hope I’ll be on it until I die.

This website is my invitation to join me.
